Brush your teeth
If you struggle with late night cravings, this tip is for you. Without fail, every time I stay up late I come to a point where I get hungry. Whether it’s snacking on cereal, popcorn, or chocolate, junk food always sounds good. So why not try to brush your teeth after you eat dinner or have dessert? Eliminating the variables that make you think its day time really works. So when you brush your teeth, you’re no longer able to eat unless you brush them again. Too much work!

Tidy your room
Transitioning from overheard lights to lamps can help convince your brain that it’s time to shut down. Even things like putting away school books and closing blinds can that the activities of the day are done. After all, that’s how my mom used to tame me and my siblings when we got rowdy, she would simply dim the lights throughout our house.
Get cold…to get warm
If you normally sleep in shorts and a t-shirt you already are doing this tip to a certain extent. When it is cold, we have to get warm, and what better way than snuggling up in blankets. If you put a fan on or make your room cold then you’ll naturally gravitate towards your bed just to stay warm.
Cut the Media
Yes, we have all heard this one for years, but media stimulates the brain more than you could possibly imagine. And sure Netflix and You Tube are part of almost everyone’s night routine, but set a limit. Leave around twenty minutes to wind down after screen time. Also, when setting your alarm, make sure you turn your phone volume up and plant it across the room. This way if you have trouble falling asleep your phone won’t be in arms reach. If you still feel awake read a book which is more calming.
Reorient your day
If you think going to bed early starts in the evening, you are mistaken. In reality, the decisions you make throughout your day affect your bedtime. One example of this is your water intake. If you drink more water earlier in the day, you won’t have to get up in the middle of the night. Another obvious example is the time you get up in the morning. If you really want to make going to bed early a life change, as a result your day will also shift. At first it may be a struggle to be hyper-aware of your time and choices during the day, but after a little while these changes will stick and become natural. And you’ll reap the benefits of being early to bed and early to rise.
